Post First Trip

An executive decision was made towards the end of this trip, the decision was that any future trips to the Soo will take place later in the year due to the “weather” or lack there of.

I am not normally a great complainer but the weather on this trip just was not conducive to be outdoors for any length of time. Windy, rainy and cold.

We spent most of the week inside, watching TV or playing Uno. Relaxing none the less. We had 1 fire and it was still daylight but a nice fire it was.

*Ships*

USS Minneapolis - St. Paul

Yes we always see ships at this campground, normally freighters of all sorts. This time tho we were treated to some “special” ships.

At first we had no clue what this ship was, it wasn’t till after I posted the picture on Facebook that a friend told me about it so I started digging for info. Sure enough I found it! Way cool to see in person!

The first U.S. Navy warship named Minneapolis-Saint Paul was a Los Angeles-class submarine launched in 1983 that participated in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. USS Minneapolis-Saint Paul (SSN 708) was the first submarine to carry Tomahawk missiles specifically designed for use in strikes against Iraq during the Gulf War. Having served for over two decades with distinction, the submarine decommissioned in 2007.

LCS is a fast, agile, mission-focused platform designed for operation in near-shore environments yet capable of open-ocean operation. It is designed to defeat asymmetric “anti-access” threats and is capable of supporting forward presence, maritime security, sea control, and deterrence.

Minneapolis-Saint Paul will be homeported at Naval Station Mayport, Florida

Ocean Voyager & Navigator

Strange names I will give you that but majestic to see come thru the locks and by our campsite.
